If you’ve been using the same version of Word or Powerpoint for years, it might finally be time to upgrade as Microsoft is gearing up to end support for Office 2013.
The tech giant will shutter support for the apps in April 2023, meaning the company will no longer release security updates or feature changes.
While Office apps like Word and Powerpoint will continue to function, Microsoft has warned that sticking with the aging Office 2013 software after the shut-off date could put your computer at risk of viruses and more.
The company will also no longer provide technical support, so if you run into any problems you won’t have anywhere to turn.

In a statement, Microsoft said: “After Office 2013 reaches the end of support, Microsoft won’t provide any new security updates, and the continued use of Office 2013 after April 2023 may increase your organization’s exposure to security risks or impact your ability to meet compliance obligations.”
The tech company recommends that if you want to keep using supported Microsoft Office software, you have to sign up to an Office 365 subscription.
This can cost up to £79.99 for a one-year family deal which lets you use Office on six different logins.

Alternatively, you can pick up a one-year ‘Personal’ subscription to Office 365 for £59.99.
This will also include cloud storage, meaning your files will be backed up to the web in case you ever have any problems with your computer.
Microsoft routinely withdraws support for older software in a bid to get people upgrading.
Microsoft Office is one of the most-used word processing and presentation software suites available. However, there are free alternatives, including Google Docs and Google Drive which offers many of the same features for free.
