Cross-Border Remote Working Can Raise Larger Problems Than the Wi-Fi Connection | Legaltech News – Law.com

Remote working is all the rage these days, especially among companies looking to attract and retain employees in a competitive job market. Still, the “New Frontier of Cross-Border Remote Work” panel held during Tuesday’s edition of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s (ACC) 2021 virtual annual meeting emphasized that allowing employees to work from anywhere in the world is not without its risks. 

Panelist Ellen Weitz, head counsel, labor and employment at Siemens Energy Inc., noted the wide variety of different stakeholders within her company that have to be consulted before an employee is authorized to work from another state or country. The list includes representatives from the company’s tax and benefits departments, information technology personnel and the risk analysis group.
