Remote working law is meddlesome indeed | Ireland | The Sunday Times – The Times

What a relief to know that we will soon get a new law giving employees the right to ask whether they may work from home. Leo Varadkar’s Right to Request Remote Working Bill 2022 will make a welcome change to the current situation where employees are prohibited by law — on pain of floggings, prosecution and even imprisonment — from so much as broaching the subject of working from home.

Once this piece of legislation works its way through the Oireachtas, it will be legal for employees to approach bosses and ask: “Please sir, may I work from home?” — without expecting a reception akin to that which greeted Oliver Twist when he looked for more gruel. Wait . . .
