The 2022 Status Of Remote Work And Top Future Predictions – Forbes

The demand for remote work has continued to be strong since 2020. Across industries, companies and workers have experienced its benefits. Recent research shows that 87% of respondents stated that remote work options improved their overall work-life balance.

A Gallup survey in June of 2022 found that 8 in 10 people are working hybrid or remote, while only 2 in 10 are entirely on-site. And an AT&T study found the hybrid work model is expected to grow from 42% in 2021 to 81% in 2024.

Employees are eager to continue working remotely or hybrid. According to FlexJobs’ Career Pulse Survey (conducted between July and August 2022), 65% of respondents report wanting to work remotely full-time, while 32% want a hybrid work environment. That’s an astounding 97% of workers who desire some form of remote work. Furthermore, a survey found that 57% of respondents would leave their job if their company wouldn’t offer remote work options.

Still, employees and employers don’t seem to be on the same page. A Microsoft report shows that employees embrace flexible work and its benefits while leaders long for the office culture.

87% of employees report that they are productive at work; at the same time, only 12% of the leaders say they have complete confidence that their team is productive.

Statistics though show that employees are actually more productive. The same study shows that hours worked, number of meetings, and other activity metrics have increased. Besides, there are several reasons remote work increases productivity:

MORE FOR YOU

  • Fewer interruptions
  • Quieter work environment
  • More comfortable workplace
  • More focused time
  • Avoiding office politics
  • Less time spent traveling
  • Better mental health management

The disconnect between leaders and employees suggests leaders should redirect their focus, especially with remote employees. Having more frequent one-on-one conversations to understand tehir needs and providing support in prioritizing their workload are essential. These actions can help prevent burnout, overwork and disengagement.

Remote work is still work. It saves companies and employees money, is environmentally friendly and provides the flexibility that employees, especially new generations, demand.
